Underworld announced as music directors for 2012 Olympics Opening ceremony

Underworld have been announced as Music Directors for the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games .

Underworld’s Rick Smith and Karl Hyde join artist director Danny Boyle for the event for a three-hour ceremony on July 27th. Both have worked together on music Boyle’s films in the past such as Trainspotting, A Life Less Ordinary, The Beach, Sunshine and the theatrical production of Frankenstein.

Underworld are no strangers to artistic visions with the visual collective Tomato working on much of duo’s creative endeavours during the ’90s and into the last decade.

Previously it was announced that Elbow would provide the theme to the Olympics with a six-minute song specially written for the event called ‘First Steps’.
